Pet tortoise help???

I want to get a pet tortoise, but i have no idea what they live in. I have herd they live in a tortoise table when there babies and live out side in the garden when they are older is that true?. Also can you give me ideas on what cages or w.e they live in please and some names of a pet shop were they sell them. O and can i just make a tortoise table for it?. please help thanks ok cya
